Have the stresses of life caught up to you lately? Looking to reconnect?

Escape the daily grind, ditch the distractions, and rediscover paradise – together.

My wife and I did just that at Couples Swept Away, an adults-only, all-inclusive resort on the shores of Negril, Jamaica.

Let me tell you, this isn’t your average beach vacation.

Imagine swaying palm trees, clear turquoise waters, and a resort experience designed to reignite the spark between you and your partner.

The moment we arrived, we knew we had stumbled upon something really special. I mean just look at the picture above 🤩! This was right above our room!

Best of all? This resort is designed for every type of traveler and every couple.

  • Want to stay fit while enjoying paradise? They have the largest sports complex in Jamaica.
  • Want to explore what’s beneath the surface? They have all-inclusive scuba diving.
  • Want to chill at the swim-up bar all day? The drinks keep coming and are all included.

You get my point… you will NOT be bored here.

Why Couples Swept Away Is The Ultimate Couples Getaway

Now, I could make this a list about a million miles long on why I think Couples Swept Away is the best place to vacation with your partner, but I’ll hit some of the highlights to respect your attention:

  • Atmosphere – Ever been somewhere that makes it kind of difficult to really slip into a romantic evening? Well… at Couples Swept Away that’s the whole point!

Pretty much everyone visiting is there for the same reason you are: to have a romantic getaway with their partner!

If everyone is on the same page, romance isn’t an afterthought; it’s expected. One great example of this would be the free catamaran cruise. Sunset, a catamaran, your favorite person… what more could you want?

We didn’t know if we would enjoy the catamaran cruise, but since it was included, we gave it a shot, and it ended up being one of our favorite parts!
  • Endless Activity – I touched on this above, but it’s worth stating again. There are SO many things you can do at Couples Swept Away that I can’t list them all or this article would be never ending.

You can check them all out on their website here.

Some of our favorites were using the sports complex (weights, pickleball, tennis… so many options), going out for morning scuba dives (included!), and acting like 5-year-olds at the pool and beach (Marco Polo, anyone?).

We were also visiting during the Arts, Eats and Beats event so there were tons of daily events happening, but I’ll get into that more below.

This is just a really small piece of the sports complex at Couples Swept Away. They had all the equipment we needed, which is so rare for most properties we stay at.
  • Wonderful Dining – Have you ever been to an all-inclusive that seemed like they were cutting as many corners as they could to save money?

Unfortunately, one of the areas that tends to happen is with food and drinks. Thankfully, this was no issue at Couples Swept Away.

Every meal we had was great!

We especially enjoyed a night at The Palms while enjoying the Steel Drum Band. They were so much more than that, though. While they can rock the drums they were also some of the most athletic people on the island!

This guy was doing backflips of the stage, walking through the crowd on his hands, playing steel drums like crazy…. there was a lot of talent in the room during our dinner.
  • Relaxation – Is it really a getaway if you don’t spend some time winding down?

Don’t get me wrong, Liz and I love to spend our days being active, diving, and having a good time, but we always make sure to spend some time unwinding, too.

It couldn’t be any easier at Couples Swept Away. We loved our slow mornings drinking coffee on our balcony and listening to the world wake up.

Being able to look out over the ocean and listen to the birds sing to us before heading out for our adventures really set the tone for each day.

And if you are looking to really relax, the on-site spa is your best bet!

How cool does this relaxation area look?! The spa was dreamy.

Like I said, this list is just a SMALL sampling of what makes Couples Swept Away perfect for a couple’s getaway.

Let’s Get Personal

I’m going to share 3 memory snapshots with you.

These are moments that stood out to me and made me really appreciate Couples Swept Away.

While there were many more, these 3 stand out the most. You know how I said this was the perfect place to reconnect as a couple?

Well, here’s my proof!

If you visit, you are sure to collect many of these moments yourself.

Snapshot 1

We are walking back from dinner to our room when we notice a sign pointing down that says “KISS HERE”.

We look at each other and say of course we have to do it!

Queue 5 minutes of trying to get it right, kiss after kiss laughing the whole time, and then realizing we lined it up wrong the whole time anyway.

We proceeded to laugh hysterically at our own stupidity and then kissed for real.

Snapshot 2

We are about 100ft underwater on our first dive in about a year. Suddenly I feel nauseous and worry that I may get sick while in full scuba gear far away from the surface.

Technically, you can get sick through a regulator, but my mind started racing, thinking if I started to, I would drown.

Panic 100ft underwater is not something you want to feel.

Luckily, this was like my 80th dive so I have had practice overcoming my instincts in similar situations, but my heart was still pounding like crazy.

Unfortunately, I forgot the housing for my GoPro and wasn’t able to get footage of us in Jamaica, but Liz and I have been diving a ton ever since we lived in Grenada for a time (pictured above with our friend Pete).

Then I looked over at Liz.

She was calm as a cucumber, staring at an interesting piece of coral.

My panic melted away, and I swam over to her and held her hand for the rest of the dive.

She kept me calm, and in that moment I realized how much life we have done together and how much she means to me.

I was excited about the all-inclusive diving before we showed up, but I didn’t realize it would lead to such a profound moment.

Snapshot 3

We are in the ocean while a storm is approaching after spending some time at the swim-up bar.

Liz started piling sand on my shoulder, and we started comparing who could pull up the biggest pile with one hand.

We played on the beach like little kids, and with views like this, who wouldn’t?

It’s a game a 5-year-old would play, and it’s silly, but it made me realize how cool it is that we can still be dumb and fun with each other after over a decade together.

It was just one of many moments of gratitude for the life we’ve built together, and it made me excited for the many years left we get to explore together.

All of these little snapshots and more added up to a wonderful experience that made me feel really close to Liz, and Couples Swept Away was the perfect place to reconnect.

Arts, Eats and Beats

I can’t end this article without telling you about the amazing event that we were a part of when we visited – Arts, Eats and Beats.

While Couples Swept Away always has something going on in terms of experiences, sometimes they go a step further with a full-on event.

We were lucky enough to be there during this special event and had a blast!

This guy was crazy! He even swallowed the fire at one point! One of many events during Arts, Eats and Beats.

If you are planning to visit, definitely check out what sort of events they have on the horizon because it adds a whole other layer to the trip.

We were able to take a cocktail class, a cooking class, and an art class; we enjoyed live music, special dinners, and so much more – even a fire dancer!

Our favorites were definitely the cocktail class with @join_jules and the cooking class with @eatwitzo. We liked them so much that we now have both of their books!

Discovering Paradise Together

Our trip to Couples Swept Away was more than just a beach getaway; it was a chance to step outside of day-to-day life and find space to reconnect.

The perfect atmosphere, amazing food, and gorgeous beach put this property on the map for us.

We will definitely keep it in mind when we are looking to get away together again!

Wrapping up, here are some of our top tips to make sure your visit is as magical as it gets:

  • Book a room with an ocean view: While most rooms have a decent view of the ocean, get one that is front and center if possible! We loved being able to wake up and have coffee while looking out over the beach and ocean.
  • Bring a nice outfit or two: While you can totally spend most of your time in a swimsuit, it was nice to dress up for a few fancier dinners and have little dates each night.
  • Don’t worry about ground transportation: When you get through customs in Montego Bay look for the giant Couples lounge. You can wait for free ground transport here and they even have free beer if you want some (you can even take one to go!)
  • Try some activities you aren’t sure about: There are tons and tons of activities every day, so be sure to try something new! We did a painting class and had a lot of fun — even if we did realize we need to work on our skills 😂.
